The
Christian Youth Fellowship (CYF) is the youth arm of the United Church of
Christ in the Philippines (UCCP). It
served as a training ground for church membership among young people in the
1940s and 1950s. It was also an
effective venue for drawing young converts from other non – Protestant
families.
Due
to vigorous campaigns of the church and of young people to organize CYF
formations, there were already 21 conferences CYFs out of 22 conferences
nationwide by 1955.
It
was in 1979 that the National CYF was officially recognized by the church as a national organization with a membership
range of 12 to 30 years old. This
historical event took place in Dumaguete City.
The
National Youth Assembly (NYA) is the highest policy – making body of the
CYF. It meets every four years. The first NYA was held in 1982 in Malolos,
Bulacan,
Today,
the CYF continues its tradition and mission of preaching the Gospel of Jesus
Christ. It carries on various ministries
for the transformation of church and community towards a just and peaceful
social order.
There
are more than 10,000 local CYFs in
the country. These are the building
blocks of the organization.
The
policy – making body of geographically – grouped local CYFs is called the conference CYF. Like the local CYF, it is free to elect its
own set of officers who will carry out programs that will address the needs of
members and the community where they are in.
There are more than 40 conference CYFs nationwide.
Adjacent
conference CYFs are grouped into JURISDICTION
CYFs that serve as the implementing channel of the plans and programs of
the National CYF. There are 6
jurisdictions of the CYF and of the UCCP, namely, NORTH LUZON JURISDICTION (NLJ), South Luzon Jurisdiction (SLJ),
East Visayas Jurisdiction (EVJ), West Visayas Jurisdiction (WVJ), Northwest
Mindanao Jurisdiction (NWMJ), and Southeast Mindanao Jurisdiction (SEMJUR).
The
National Executive Committee (NEC) is the set of officers elected during the
NYA, and ensures the implementation of the programs of the National CYF.
